Thoppigala Heritage Park

Founded as an effort to commemorate the peaceful integration of all communities following the end of the war, Dilmah Conservation supported the establishment of the Thoppigala Heritage Park aimed at educating visitors on the historical, cultural and environmental importance of this area, with a special focus on conservation. This space offers an overview of Sri Lanka’s environment and rich biodiversity through three-dimensional models and interactive educational features.

Vadhdhas’ Culture

This is one of the small village near Giman free. The people who are living in this village are called “Sea vadhdhas”, a traditional, primitive and an extinctive culture. This Village is the last of all in this community and in the verge of total extinction from Sri Lanka. They have a specific culture and social environment than other cultures in Sri Lanka. The guest can experience their lifestyle by participating in several activities including, traditional fishing methods, celebration of their functions, dancing styles etc.…

Jungle Tour

This is a one and half day excursion in the nearby shrub jungle with our local guide. Learn many of the secrets that the jungle holds: natural medicines, herbs, trees and many plants that are still used today by natural healers. Natural water ways,
archeological sites and ancient walking paths are a few interesting aspects of the tour.

Maduru Oya National park travel (Full Day)

Travel time approximately 1 hour and 47 minutes from Giman Free Beach resort to Maduru Oya National park.

Birdlife at Maduru Oya National Park
Among the more than 100 species of birds found at the park are lesser Adjutant, Wooly necked stork, Open Bill, Painted Stork, Racket Tailed Drongo, Yellow Fronted Barbet, Sri Lanka Jungle fowl found in Sri Lanka and Spur fowl.
Elephants at Maduru Oya National Park
Maduru Oya National Park is home to about 150-200 elephants. The best hour to witness herds of elephants is at 4-5 pm when sun begins to set over the vast modern man made irrigation reservoir.

Somawathiya temple, Seruwawila temple, Lanka patuna Viharaya

Travel time approximately from Giman free beach resort to Somawathiya Viharaya 1 hour & 14 minutes, and from Somawathita temple to Seruwawila temple 2 hours & 24 minutes, from Seruwavila Temple to Lanka patuna Temple 40 minutes are spending.

Seruwila Mangala Raja Maha Vihara
List of Monuments in the complex: Stupa – Origin 2nd Century B.C. – restored in 1920’s. Restored Northern entrance – This building has evidence of molded bricks, balustrades, guard stones and moonstones. Eastern entrance Image house building at the Stupa terrace, Sculptured stone lotus, Bo tree shrine [Bodhighara], Ancient pond, Remains of ancient Chapter House, Remains of monasteries, Remains of a building on stone pillars.

Lanka Patuna
Fair winds and good tidings bore prince Dhantha and princesses Hemamala to a landing where the azure sky and the turquoise sea regarded each other in seemingly close proximity.
Somawathiya Temple
Somawathi Stupa is located in the middle of the jungle, in Polonnaruwa district. From Polonnaruwa, you have to travel to Sungavila and then take a lengthy road which leads to the temple through the Jungle. Somawathi stupa has written historical evidence that it was constructed in 2nd century BC. This dageba was named for the princes Somawathi, the sister of king Kawanthissa. She got married to prince Abhaya, a nephew of of king Shiva of Kelaniya. He was the ruler of the Somapura Kingdom, which was located by the Mahaveli River.

Ancient City of Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa was the second Capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993. It comprises, besides the Brahmanic monuments built by the Cholas, the monumental ruins of the fabulous garden-city created by Parakramabahu I in the 12th century. In this tour, guest can visit to Parakrama Samudraya, Statue of King Parakramabahu in Polonnaruwa, Palace of King Parakramabahu in Polonnaruwa, Nissanka Lata Mandapaya in Polonnaruwa etc.

Koneswaram temple

Koneswaram temple of Trincomalee is a Hindu temple in Trincomalee, Eastern Province. Heralded as one of the richest and most visited temple compounds
in Asia, Koneswaram became one of the most important surviving and influential structures of the classical Dravidian architectural period by the early 17th century.

Hot spring well

According to the details provided in some information boards at the site, Kanniya Hot water spring has the history from the King Rawana era. It says that King Ravana stuck the earth with his sword in several spots and several fountains were started on those places. The water was hot and that was the beginning of these hot water springs.

Boat Rides

Giman Free Beach Resort is home to fascinating site seeing. Opposite the hotel in sea is the famous Elephant rock, Thennadi Bay and next is the Vanadaloos Bay. It is ideal for diving, snorkeling and fishing.

Vedhdha in Mahiyanganaya

Dambana is situated about 70-80 km away from Pasikuda. It is near the Mahiyanganaya. Dambana is a jungle village. The Sri Lankan Vedda people (indigenous people of Sri Lanka) are still living in this jungle village. The Veddas of Dambana have their own tradition and culture. Many tourists like to discover indigenous people of Sri Lanka. Vedda has original language. It is called Vedda language and it is different from Sinhala language. If you visit Dambana you can learn about tradition of these people.

Large shopping areas include Puliyanthivu and Koddamunai in Batticaloa town, Kattankudy (6km south from Batticaloa), as well as Eravur (15km north from Batticaloa), Valaichchenai and Oddamavadi’s markets (35km north from Batticaloa) and so on.
